About EmergingEdTech.com
Welcome
Welcome to “Emerging Internet Technologies for Education”. The possibilities for the use of current and emerging internet technologies in the education field are limitless, and there is so much potential to tap into. These tools can help educators and administrators engage students, improve learning outcomes, and enhance administrative productivity. Each weekend, I research a relevant topic, and write a brief article providing information, insight, and/or opinion about that topic. I post these articles at the start of each week, and I occasionally create a series of such posts, to cover a topic more in-depth. I also post a brief “mid week update” each week, usually about a different topic, often some interesting product or intriquing article I came across that week. [Starting Oct 2009, I have also added a brief end of week post listing 5 to 10 tweets I posted that week about Ed Tech articles and web sites that I think my blog readers might find informative and useful.]
My qualifications
I have been in the information technology field for over 20 years, working at a senior management level for more than half of that time. I have been an avid user of Internet technologies for many of those years, and in 2008 I joined an institution of higher education as Director of Institutional Information & Technology, and began to focused increasing attention on instructional uses of current and emerging Internet technologies. There is so much that can be done to engage students with these evolving technologies. I also feel strongly that educators should strive to be aware of these technologies, and to provide students with insight into them. I do not claim to be an expert in all of these technologies. I am, probably much like yourself, very interested in them, and willing to devote some time to exploring them and sharing my experiences in a way that I hope is useful. I really hope to encourage a dialogue - to hear back from readers who have used these and similar technologies and can share their experiences, perspective, and knowledge.
